Q: What is ranSACkedmedia.com anyways?

A: ranSACkedmedia.com in the simplest definition is a local content aggregate site that puts news and information into context for you the reader.  We focus on the Sacramento region and collect all the interesting and relevant articles we find on the web and present them in a way that we hope you will find entertaining and informative.  We believe there’s a hell of a lot more going on in our community than what you see on the nightly news and we want to show it to you.

Q: There sure are a lot of crime stories on this webpage.  What gives?

A:  There’s a lot of crime in Sacramento, but in no way do we only want to focus on the bad stuff.  It is, however, important for us as citizens to recognize the problems this city is facing if we’re ever going to get past them.  Sacramento is facing a critical moment in its history, and it’s up to the citizens to decide what kind of city they want to live in.  Information is the key to people making informed decisions, and we want you to have information about what’s going on in your community.

Q: You sent me a twitter/facebook/email message saying you would publish my content.  Were you serious?

A: Absolutely!  I am eager to promote original content from local authors from a wide variety of viewpoints.  The most important thing you need to get your story on ranSACkedmedia.com is authenticity and a passion for whatever you want to cover.

Q: What can I write about for ranSACkedmedia.com?

A:  Almost anything as long as it’s about something that affects Sacramento or is happening in Sacramento.  If you need ideas here’s a few things I would love to publish:

-Story’s about events (Downtown, Midtown, etc.  Music shows, food fairs, festivals)

-Reviews of businesses (Bars, nightclubs, liquor stores, restaurants, food trucks, coffee shops)

-Articles about neighborhoods or people (What’s your block like? Do you know a cool artist, musician, weird person?)

-ART ART ART! (Local artists/bands come up!)

-Homelessness/gangs/drug use

-Urban exploration (!!!)

-Anything else you can think of

Q: What kind of “vibe” are you going for?

A: Counter-culture, alternative, guerilla, etc.  Think gawker.com, vice.tv, onion.com.

Q: Why?

A: Simple answer, I love this city.  Despite its flaws, despite its harsh edges, it’s the only home I’ve ever known and it pains me to see it fail to live up to its true potential. I’ve been lucky enough to know just a handful of awesome artists and otherwise talented people that have come out of this city, and for every one person that gets recognized for their gifts there’s a hundred that never get a shot.  I want to give those people the attention they deserve.  I want to give you the platform to reach other local people whose stories are similar to yours.  I want Sacramento to be more than the butt of so many jokes.  And I don’t see that happening with the major news/media outlets in the area.
