The relevant points are at the end:
1) The City Council is to authorize the use of MOPA funds ($5Mil) for the ESC
2) The City is to transfer $850,000 from the parking fund for the ESC
3) The City is to enter into a contract for $555,745 with AECOM for environmental consultant services
4) The City is to enter into a $99,880 contract with AECOM for site planning services

Or, to put it another way, the City Council is being asked to spend $6,505,625 on a project the resolution says is dead and $1,505,625 of that is General Fund money (funds that can be used to pay for such trivialities as police and fire-fighters).

I’m glad we have so much money burning a hole in our pocket these days. I guess I heard this wild rumor the other day that we had a deficit. Glad it was wrong.

The other great moment came Syphax was asking KJ about the strong mayor initiative and he says that some critics of the SMI say that it leads to corruption. And KJ responds to the effect that if we do SMI when we don’t have to deal with corruption, we’ll be doing it right. He didn’t even understand the question. And Syphax, of course, didn’t follow up. But then these were the two non-basketball related questions.

My husband sort of half-listened to the interview (I am the one in the family who is a bit mad about politics) but even half-listening he wanted to know: “What’s he doing being mayor? He knows nothing about it. He knows a lot about basketball. He should be a coach.”

The biggest thing I notice about these old newscasts is how much easier they are to watch, since there is no constant text and graphics on the screen! A lot of today’s news is close to unwatchable, with station logos always on (I quit watching network shows when they started doing that on those!), scrolling text about other not-so-important things going on at the same time, and other clutter. I swear some newscasts I’ve seen, only half the screen has any picture as the other half is covered in graphics!

I’m always looking for more off-air tapes too- they can be from anywhere, from 1984 or earlier (the older the better obviously) as long as they are straight recordings with commercials and everything else left in. My equipment includes a working industrial-model Beta, so if you have old tapes but your Betamax died send them my way! I transfer everything to DVD with chapters for each commercial and program segment (newscasts average 99 chapters), and upload the best stuff on Youtube.
