Earlier this week, half-a-dozen underage prostitutes from throughout the greater Sacramento region were rescued during a nationwide sweep called Operation Cross Country. Over 2,500 law enforcement officers working on behalf of several different agencies worked together to free a total of 79 child sex workers across the United States.
In a local connection, a source with ties close to the investigation cited a December 2011 ranSACkedmedia article as one lead that resulted in the liberation of a child prostitute. Last year, after the publishing of an article by Sergio Villarreal, an agent working on Operation Cross Country contacted ranSACkedmedia for further information about the subjects in the story. That information played a small role in the events that took place over the past weekend.
Altogether, 107 pimps were arrested in the sweep.
