Boy shoots teen in head while playing with a handgun

A 16-year-old Sacramento boy was shot in the head by a companion who was playing with a handgun on Monday. The victim, who luckily was only grazed in the ear by the bullet, was taken to the UC Davis Med Center emergency room for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

Police investigators descended into a home in the Norwood area of North Sacramento and found the shooter, another 16-year-old male, and arrested him. Preliminary reports indicate that the boys were playing with the handgun in the backyard when it fired accidentally.

No word yet on how the two youth obtained the handgun or if there was any adults at the home at the time of the shooting. Area schools were closed Monday for the President’s Day Holiday.
