A local and art/furniture producer who specializes in using sustainable and reclaimed materials is poised to transform an unfortunate momentary setback into a positive push towards a new venture. As ranSACkedmedia first shared with you in early January, Sacramento businessman Steven Tiller was shocked to discover that under the cover of night his design studio was broken into, resulting in the theft of over $6,000 in tooling. Resolved to not let the incident hinder his family’s aspirations, Tiller moved forward with a new project with even more determination, and the Bike Valet Kickstarter campaign was born.
The Bike Valet itself is a blending of style and function; a wall-mounted bicycle storage device that works as good as it looks. Developed to help maximize space in tight living quarters, the Bike Valet is made from 1/8” cold steel and shaped with state-of-the-art laser cutters. It’s then finished by hand, powder coated in one of six colors and finished with either leather of neoprene pads to protect the finish of the stored bike. Customers can customize the color combination and style of pads to their wish. Integrated helmet, bag and gear hooks add extra functionality. 2” wall lag bolts insure the Bike Valet stays where it’s installed.
With 7 days left to go in the Kickstarter campaign, Tiller is closing in on his goal. Nearly 100 people have already stepped up to the plate, devoting almost $7,500 to the project. But Tiller still has a ways to go if the Kickstarter operation is going to be a success. The only way the project will be funded is if Tiller crosses the predetermined goal set at the launch of the page; $10,000. While that once may have seemed like a huge task, it now appears that it’s a surmountable achievement. But it’s going to take your help.
A pledge of $87 or more will result in the recipient becoming the owner of their very own Bike Valet. A pledge of $174 of more gets you two of them. But if you can’t afford to shell out enough to buy a unit, you can still offer your support. You can pledge one dollar, five dollars, 25 dollars, or any other amount that fits into your budget. A $25 pledge will also get you a “Valet Your Life” t-shirt; another great way to show your love for local businesses.
We all have opportunities in our lives to help out those who have been dealt an unfair blow. But it’s not everyday that we have the chance to lend support in a way that isn’t just a handout; this is a prop-up. It’s a chance to advocate for a local business that’s doing good right here where you live. If you can’t drop a buck, you can at least share this story. This is the power of community crowd-sourcing in the digital age. This is the way the 21 century village bands together to get over hardships. Let’s get this thing funded. Let’s be the best Sacramento we can be; one that recognizes the value of local art/business/talents and refuses to lose something special over bullshit vandals.
