Two Sacramento homeless men dead from carbon monoxide poisoning

The Sacramento Police Department is reporting that two men who were living in a tent near the American River were found dead on Saturday, apparently the result of carbon monoxide poisoning. A companion dog that was also in the tent died as well.

According to the SacPD daily log, the two men, ages 44 and 38, had a tent set up just east of the Highway 160 bridge at Northgate. For unknown reasons, the men had brought a camping stove into the tent. Without proper ventilation, the carbon monoxide fumes from such a stove can be fatal, as they were in this case.

The names of the deceased were not made immediately available.
