UPDATE: Paul got his van back!!! Check out this link for the follow-up story. Right now, a van that was stolen overnight is somewhere out there in Sacramento, and chances are, wherever it is, it’s sticking out like a sore thumb. Sometime before dawn on Wednesday, a car thief made off with a 1991 Toyota Previa while it was parked on a Midtown street. While auto theft has become more increasingly common all over the region, it’s not everyday that thieves pick such a terrible vehicle to steal if they’re trying to not draw attention to themselves.
You see, this Toyota belongs to the well renowned punk-artist Paul Imagine, and if there’s any doubt about it, one only needs to open their eyes and gaze upon the dozens if not hundreds of stickers that adorn the van to affirm who the owner is. And while the Kelly Blue Book price of a ’91 Previa may only be in the few hundreds of dollars, the sentimental and logistical value of this particular “Eggvan” is astronomical.
Paul uses his van to transport his art to-and-from the shows where he sells his posters and shirts, and actually had a good amount of merchandise in the vehicle at the time of its disappearance. A great many of his friends and fellow artists have been doing their part by spreading the word via social media posts, and a few have already started tossing around the idea of creating some kind of fundraiser in case Paul’s van doesn’t turn back up soon.
In the meantime, please be on the lookout for a white Toyota Previa, absolutely covered with punk-rock stickers, California license plate 2UQE484. If you see it, call the Sacramento Police Department right away at 916-264-5471.
