Sacramento Mayoral candidate to drop out of 2012 election

An Oak Park man who recently announced that he would be running for Mayor of Sacramento in the 2012 election cycle will be announcing that he plans to drop out of the race, possibly as soon as Friday, ranSACkedmedia has learned.

It was only a little over a month ago that Edgar Hilbert-Garcia threw his hat into the ring, saying that local government was in the need for “fresh leadership” now more than ever. Hilbert-Garcia cited an abundance of “business to attend to” and an inability to completely “focus on the race” as his main considerations in making his decision.

Hilbert isn’t eliminating the possibility of taking another run for mayor in the future, and believes that the changes needed in local politics will come from a new generation of young leaders.

Local living-legend, bounty hunter, bails bondsman, and previous candidate Leonard Padilla remains in the running, and has had several productive meetings over the past weeks as he assembles his campaign team and staff.

“I’m against selling the parking meters, and I’m against the arena.” Padilla told ranSACkedmedia via telephone interview. “I’m putting together my team and I’m ready to take another stab at it.”

Padilla has previously run for mayor of Sacramento, governor of California, and Sheriff of Sacramento County.

Current Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson is running for re-election for a second term. He has already amassed a healthy war-chest and has conducted numerous “listening sessions” as part of his campaign.
