A woman who admits to consuming at least two beers during her lunch break was arrested on Tuesday after police say she struck a parked car while under the influence of alcohol. In the vehicle with her at the time was her two small children who she had just picked up from a Midtown Sacramento day care center.
According to a report on CBS 13, a man called the police to report that a hit-and-run driver had struck his car. The caller then followed the driver, who was identified as Gina Stewart, to a daycare center close by. Stewart has denied hitting the parked car.
The mother of two told a CBS reporter that she had “two beers” at lunch, which was several hours before the incident. Despite her small frame, Stewart says that she wasn’t drunk and that she intends to fight the case.
She believes that police thought she was intoxicated only because she was very upset when they confronted her. During an interview inside of her garage, damage consistent with a vehicle accident are clearly visible on her car.
According to the news story and public records, Stewart works for the Department of Corrections. She faces charges of hit and run, DUI, and child endangerment. She currently has custody of her children.
